LAUREN MAHON – GIRL VS CANCER – Dealing with it

Classic Lauren pose, from here website https://girlvscancer.co.uk/about/

We met Lauren Mahon at Fearne Cotton’s Happy Place Festival in Chiswick last year (2019). She was on The Talks stage, sharing her experience of being told at the age of 31 she had breast cancer. Devastating news at any age, but Lauren was “thirty-bloody-one, far too young and full-of-fun to be dealing with this kind of crap, and secondly, how can I have breast cancer when she DOESN’T HAVE ANY B*STARD TITS?!?!”

It was an aggressive 2.8cm ‘Grade 3’ cancerous lump. Desperate for some reassurance, she headed to CoppaFeel!. A charity raising awareness of breast cancer in young people. CoppaFeel! was founded by Kris Hallenga, another inspiring speaker at Happy Place Festival, and crusader of all things boobs. CoppaFeel! promote the awareness of the C word across schools, university, work, festivals and in the media. “It’s crazy that we teach girls how to correctly slip a condom onto a banana but not how to check their breasts. Which, you know, could save their lives” says Lauren. They have set up a support system which includes monthly text reminders to check your boobs (and yes guys, this includes you too!), and infographics on how to check them properly.

Aside from CoppaFeel! Lauren found that most cancer-related communities were aimed at the  over-50’s demographic and she struggled to relate. Fed up of the perception that cancer is a disease for older people, Lauren decided to “grab her breast cancer diagnosis by the boobs” and began her own blog and instagram under the hashtag #GIRLvsCANCER. She shares tales of her treatment and troubles in daily life, as she tackles the taboo of cancer amongst the 20 and 30 year olds.

Through Lauren’s instagram stories and blogs she talks with authenticity about her struggles with anxiety, heightened by the diagnosis and treatment of cancer.

She looks very much like a woman who never stops; someone who is positively seizing the moment and every hour of every day. “I make myself busy as a coping mechanism, so I don’t think about what I’ve gone through,”

She’s realised that comes with a downside for her: “It means I’m not giving myself the headspace to connect and process what’s going on, to look at what I’ve done that day and think ‘Wow, that was amazing.” (exerpt from her Happiful interview)

One thing that helps her through manage the stresses and strains is CBD. She’s been taking our 8% CBD Oil for a year now. We asked her to review some of our other products and over the next few weeks she’ll be sharing her thoughts and experience of the CBD Tea, Bath Salts, Luxurious Moisturiser and the 8%. You can follow Lauren on instagram here. She’s created such a great space for sharing, caring and reassuring ‘you’re not the only one’.

We’d love to hear from our tribe on why you use CBD, how it works for you, any tips or tricks to share with the tribe – so please, get in touch. It’s wonderful to share any stories you have, as they will reach someone who believes they are the only one, and inspire that person to seek a natural, alternative answer to the myriad of conditions CBD has proven to help with.
