DEALING WITH MENTAL HEALTH | Get Out of Your Mind and Into Your Body
This week has been one of creating awareness of mental health. Anxiety is certainly the most common reason people come to us seeking CBD help.
Every year the Mental Health Foundation drives the theme behind Mental Awareness Week and this year that theme is body image and how it effects our mental and emotional wellbeing. Their website is a fantastic source of advice and inspiration for anyone with any form of mental illness or instability which is emotionally or mentally driven.

Brands have a lot to answer for when it comes to the pressures put upon us on how we look, behave, what we do. Social media is a platform for scrutinisation and ridicule. It’s never been so difficult to escape the societal and cultural influences that drive our behaviour and the companies whose advertising reinforces those notions of perfection. It’s time to rebel. Love ourselves, how we are. One woman who does this so fabulously is Bryony Gordon.
You’re Not Alone
Bryony Gordon, columnist and podcaster, and founder of Mental Health Mates is not afraid to bare all on her instagram account and embrace all that is her. She has written many an inspiring book. One of which is perfect for teenage girls if you have one. Another is about how she battled with weight and turned to running to help shed pounds. She found that running did more than that and saved her life…saved her from the affects on her mind and body that years of alcohol, depression and extremely busy career had. The book is called Eat, Drink, Run.
“I started to run in 2016, not because I wanted to, but because I had to. I had written about mental illness in my book Mad Girl, and had been inundated with messages from people telling me about their own experiences. I realised that I was not alone, but my illness had thrived on making me feel alone. I knew, of course, that exercise was good for your head, but I had never thought it was for me on account of my gigantic arse and tummy.Though I obviously lost weight training for the marathon, I realised that the experience had actually been about gains. The more I ran, the better I felt, and the better I felt, the more I wanted to feel better” Bryony Gordon

Get Out of Your Mind and Into Your Body
I walked around Hebden Bridge and asked poople how they deal with their mental health. Interestingly, most answered with things that bring them into their bodies and out of their minds, physical activities like running, gardening. And some turned to activities which require focus like cooking, creative projects and launching themselves downhill at speed on a mountain bike. When you’re concentrating and focused the mind cannot think of much else other than that very activity and encourages a single-point-of-focus. It becomes a meditation.
Physical activity has a huge potential to enhance our wellbeing. Even a short burst of 10 minutes’ brisk walking increases our mental alertness, energy and positive mood.[read more here]
Participation in regular physical activity can increase our self-esteem and can reduce stress and anxiety. It also plays a role in preventing the development of mental health problems and in improving the quality of life of people experiencing mental health problems.
